Life on Mars, You Idiots!

If you needed any more proof that mainstream media has become absolutely useless, here it is… None of the websites for Canada’s big four newspapers carries even a mention this SPACE.com exclusive on their front pages.

What’s the exclusive? Oh nothing much, just some crazy fringe researchers from this outfit called NASA reporting evidence of life on Mars, right now!!!

Instead, here’s what they shoveling our way…

Globe & Mail: Ottawa urged to move quickly to meet Kyoto

National Post: NHL Season on Ice

The Sun: Bettman cancels NHL season

Toronto Star: Father’s killer gets life

Now I’m not saying that any of these stories are completely irrelevant, but come on, people… Life on fucking Mars!!!

Methane signatures? That’s a science thing, isn’t it? But how can you consider a science thing more important than Michael Jackson catching the flu? Or the NHL strike? Doesn’t sell papers or draw in the viewers. What kind of visual can we get for methane signatures? Are these signatures boarding ships and heading to earth? Get me some tape on Martian invasions and get the wacky reporter to do it as a kicker….

  2. Yeah, I guess if this new life-form turned out to be oil-based or Swiffer Sweeper-based then it would be more worthy of our attention…

I’m a little disappointed that it’s not a band of evil Martians waiting to take over the world. I was ready to pledge allegiance to them and aid them in their take over of our planet.

  6. Hmmm… Well, even if the Space.com exclusive is based on a misquote, I still think it would have been worthy of more mention than it got.

Hockey’s fine and all, but I think extra-terrestrial life has implications that go beyond what’s on the tube Saturday nights!

  7. Leave it to the BBC to finally give this story some street cred, albeit more than a week later…
