Bosnia

Some details about my upcoming tour have been leaked, but I'm still on a "need-to-know" basis...

You may or may not know that in a little over a week I'll be flying to the Balkans on a military transport to perform for Canadian Peacekeepers there. The quartet of Second City actors is only part of this entertainment extravaganza, which also includes recording artist John Landry and the Shagadelic Swingers. I had my first proper meeting with the SC crew last week, and can tell you a bit more about the trip, beyond the limited Internet access I may be stuck with there.

Our departure date has been moved back to Thursday, July 10th. Apparently there's no free ride back until July 27th, but our stage manager -- or "team leader" in military jargon -- is trying to get us back on the 24th on a commercial flight.

We've been told that there will be a minimum of seven two-hour shows during our tour, with the likelihood of Second City players doing some day trips to "more sensitive areas". The army is being quite serious about the "sensitive" part -- I found out that the measurements I submitted to them is for my own personal flak jacket!

Most of our time will be spent on military bases, with the exception of a hotel stay in Zagreb. While on base the codes of conduct are pretty strict; we're allowed a maximum of two beers a day, and cannot leave the base for more without military escort.

Other details will be released by our military contact after we preview the show for them. This is happening at The Second City on Tuesday, July 8th at 4:30pm. If you want to come for a free matinée in an air-conditioned theatre, please do!
