    Kampala

Part three in a continuing series of photos from my Ugandan adventure…

    image

Here’s Adam, yours truly and Ray, spending our first day in Africa becoming acquainted with the bustling metropolis of Kampala.

Some culture shock came with a visit to the bustling Nakasero market…

… In the form of these fried crickets, a local snack. I wasn’t kidding when I wrote that I tried one, and it was surprisingly unremarkable in taste—just a little salty is all. It did kinda suck that I had either an antenna or intestine stuck between my teeth for the next couple of hours, though.

One of the many approaching thunderstorms that would visit us on our trip. I was a little worried that we were in Uganda at the height of rainy season, but it turned out to be a blessing… Lots more foliage, and much less dust!

    Kelly Compound

Part two in a continuing series of photos from my Ugandan adventure…

    image

We touched down at Entebbe International Airport at 5am in the morning; by 7 we were here, on Sunderland Avenue. Don’t let the dirt road fool ya—Sunderland is located on the relatively posh Mbuya Hill.

    image

On the other side of some strong iron gates lay this, the Kelly Compound…

    image

… Named after our host, Sue Kelly, seen here with brand-new sofa!

    image

With Sue at work most days, her friend Adam was left to chauffeur us around town. Hmm, that hat looks kinda familiar

    Yo, Adrian

Besides my scabby knees, there was one other casualty on our Ugandan trip. Adrian, the one-eyed cat rescued from the streets of Kampala by our host, went missing from the compound after being spooked by a burst water pipe, never to be seen again. He shall be missed by all…

    Last Day in Kampala

Saw the Kasubi Tombs, where Bugandan kings are buried and descendants of their concubines still hang out!

    Bwindi Birthday

… Spent in the company of mountain gorillas, before I fell down some stairs back at base camp. Still worth it!
