    Slinging in the New Year

After a slew of audience complaints like this one put an end to our five-year run of New Year’s Eve shows at The Second City, Paul Bates and Doug Morency—otherwise known as The Williamson Playboys—graciously offered to have Al Howell and I on the bill for their own ”Cheaper Show”.

Tickets are $20 for the 8pm curtain, and $35 for the 10:30pm show, including tickets to party afterwards. A highlight for me will be the recreation of last year’s audience booing comedian Boyd Banks off the stage.

So if you can’t dance or don’t want to look your significant other in the eye, come on down!

    You’re An Adult Now

Al Howell has been dreading his 40th birthday for some time now. Thankfully he’s got lots of friends who where all willing to buy in on the concept of staging his mock funeral. Server space prevents me from showing you the memorial video I made, but I can put up an embarrassing school photo for the world to see.

    Happy 40th, buddy!

    Quote Of The Day

I swear that I’m totally over losing our New Year’s Eve gig to The Second City Touring Company, but I still can’t resist posting what Boyd Banks said to me of the audience when I told him:

Fucking cunts! Why don’t they go to Red Lobster?

      AC:

I saw a rerun of the Newsroom the other day with Boyd playing the parking garage guy, and the scene with him and Finkleman is one of the funniest on that show.
I now deeply regret missing the Bash show to see Boyd challenge the 905ers’ values….

Well, if enough of us sophisticated folk want the show to go on, we could always seek out another venue…

      AC:

You’ve got my vote for that! Actually, I’d show up if the Advocates and/or Mr. Banks were opening a grocery store or even an envelope, much less hosting a New Year’s party.

Wow, they even gave Al an NBC sweatshirt!

Wow, the Devil’s Advocates make their American network debut. Can a sitcom be next in the works?

      Congratulations, AC!

Hey, hey way to go, guys! Also, you American between the 2 in need a valium.

The clip with you and Al was small part of the show compared to the preliminary race/fight between the CN Tower and the Calgary tower (Good thing the CN Tower made a good showing, too!).

      ‘till the next time…

    Whose Gig Is It, Anyway?

    DevilFans.jpg

Ah, September of 1998… At the height of our Speaker’s Corner-fueled fame, The Devils perform for Frosh Week on Centre Island, to these adoring (drunk) fans.

Now, more than five years later, no less than Whose Line star Colin Mochrie is doing college gigs himself, and on March 3rd is taking me with him to Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire. Something tells me that the stars of this particular show won’t quite be on equal footing with the audience, but I can deal — performing with Mr. Mochrie has its own perks.
